LONDON – On 17 October 2019, Christie’s Fine & Rare Wines auction will present over 700 lots of rare wines and spirits, with estimates ranging from £200 to £110,000. The auction presents collectors with the opportunity to acquire single bottles or collections of the finest Bordeaux, Burgundy and many other renowned regions.

From the cellar of a connoisseur (lots 94-214) is an impressive offering of pre-and post-war Bordeaux from the finest châteaux, including Haut-Brion 1929 and Mouton-Rothschild 1924 and 1945. The collection continues by offering the great Bordeaux vintages of the latter half of the 20th century, focusing on legendary wines such as Haut-Brion 1989, Lafleur 1982 and Mouton-Rothschild 1986. Outside of Bordeaux, superb Burgundy features in the form of Henri Jayer’s famous Vosne-Romanée Cros Parantoux 1985, Rousseau’s Chambertin 1993 and Coche-Dury’s inimitable Corton-Charlemagne 1996. Of final note is a selection of Champagne from Krug including mature vintages back to the early 1970s and Clos du Mesnil and Clos d’Ambonnay.

Further rare collections will highlight the sale including a treasured collection of fine wines from a noted collector (lots 382 to 399), comprising a selection of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. Top lots include 6 bottles of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Romanée-Conti 1999 (estimate : £70,000-£110,000) and 6 bottles of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Montrachet 1989 (estimate: £30,000- £40,000).

A collection of exceptional Bordeaux (lots 215-303) will be presented. Purchased on release and stored since delivery in a temperature controlled countryside cellar, these wines are a roll-call of the best names in Bordeaux; 12 bottles Château Latour 1982 (estimate: £14,000-£18,000), 12 bottles Château La Mission Haut-Brion 1982 (estimate: £10,000-£15,000), 12 bottles Château Cos d’Estournel 1996 (estimate: £1,200-£1,500).

Additional star lots of the sale include an exceptional selection of Madeira, led by a bottle of Companhia Vinicola da Madeira, Terrentez 1795 (estimate: £3,500-£4,500). Christie’s will present mixed lots of medal winning wines on behalf of Decanter World Wine Awards 2019 to support the international charity, WaterAid, who are dedicated to the provision of domestic water, sanitation and hygiene education across Africa and Asia.
