Paris - Christie's achieved a combined sale total of €121,1 million | $128,1 million for the week of 20/21 sales during Paris+ with sell-through rates of 89% by lot and 95% by value across the five sales. The sales attracted registrants from 50 countries from around the world.17 works sold above €1 million, including two selling for over €15 million. Four works from the Sam Josefowitz Collection will join collections of major French and international museums.
The week began with Love Stories, from the collection of Anne and Wolfgang Titze, totaling €27,7 million. A part of the Titze collection, the fruit of constant and ongoing dialogues with the artists since thirty years, was auctioned to finance the creation of their foundation. Christie's Paris continued the sales by offering François-Xavier Lalanne's Rhinocrétaire I (1964), a museum piece that has belonged since its creation in 1964 to the family of Jeanine Restany, the first gallerist to present the artist's work. The work set yesterday a new world auction record for François-Xavier Lalanne, confirming the artist as one of the great sculptors of the second half of the 20th century. Joan Miró's work offered in the Avant-Garde(s) Including Thinking Italian auction sold for €20,7 million. The work came from the famous Colombe d'Or and the funds will benefit the collection that resides at this legendary site founded by the Roux family in Saint-Paul-de-Vence..
This month Christie's held a series of sales from the Sam Josefowitz Collection between London and Paris. The running total to date stands at €72,7 million. The Sam Josefowitz Collection: Drawings and Prints by the Pont-Aven school will remain open for online bidding until 25 October. This sale will be followed by the remarkable Rembrandt prints part of this collection on 7 December in London. The Sam Josefowitz Collection achieved to date a number of world auction records during the sales in London and Paris, including for Félix Vallotton, Akseli Gallen-Kallela and Aristide Maillol (record for a painting by the artist).
